Service before business
U.S. Marine Corps · 1995–2003
Gary served in the United States Marine Corps from 1995 to 2003. Discipline, preparation and accountability are central themes in how he approaches business and shares his experience.
Policing
After military service, Gary worked as a police officer. That chapter adds a practical perspective on responsibility, judgment and making decisions when circumstances are uncertain.
More than 100 house flips
Gary has flipped more than 100 houses. That experience provides a practical foundation for discussing property evaluation, renovation planning, coordinating work and the decisions involved in moving a project from purchase to resale.
Real projects also bring changing costs, delays and difficult choices. His approach to teaching makes room for those realities rather than presenting real estate as a formula that always produces the same result.
Apartment development and rental ownership
Gary’s real estate experience extends beyond individual flips to apartment development and owning and operating rental properties through GVM Properties, INC.
Development and long-term ownership require a different lens: looking beyond the initial project to ongoing maintenance, resident service, operating expenses and the processes needed to keep properties running.
These experiences inform his interest in repeatable systems, responsible ownership and the balance between growth and an owner’s time.
Building and operating laundromats
Gary owns The Wash Room laundromats in Bergen and Le Roy, New York. The businesses bring another operating perspective to his work, including self-service laundry, wash-and-fold service and the technology that supports day-to-day operations.
His experience includes working with customer payment systems, remote monitoring, staffing, equipment and service processes. These are practical subjects for exploring how automation and clear procedures can reduce the need for constant hands-on involvement.
How that experience connects to the training
Real estate projects: evaluation, renovation planning and lessons from completed house flips.
Rental operations: long-term ownership, maintenance and repeatable operating processes.
Small-business systems: practical experience from operating laundromats and introducing automation.
Ownership and identity: examining the habits and assumptions behind business decisions.
The goal is to help readers and learners ask better questions, understand tradeoffs and make deliberate decisions. Experience provides context; it does not make every strategy suitable for every person or guarantee a particular outcome.
Author of The Linear Lie and LieID
The Linear Lie explores the idea that progress in business and life rarely follows a straight line. LieID examines how identity and repeated decisions influence long-term direction.
This platform brings those ideas together with training and practical resources as Gary focuses more of his work on writing, teaching and sharing what he has learned.
Why build beyond the day-to-day?
For Gary, the purpose of building businesses is connected to family, time and long-term financial security. A business should be considered not only by what it earns, but also by the demands it places on the people behind it.
That question—how to build something valuable without remaining tied to every daily task—is a thread running through his work.
